HOW TO DIY FOR YOUR BARN WEDDING - TOP TIPS FROM AN EVENT STYLIST

One of my favourite ever wedding themes is a rustic barn style, It offers a modest yet beautiful style to your wedding day decorations.

My business is set in the sticks of the Hampshire countryside in Liss, so there’s no wonder the countryside feel is close to my heart. I’ve always always believed that if you can bring the outside in our inside out the two can compliment each other perfectly. This too is a common theme in my own home (a cottage, of course!) incorporating raw wood from furniture and greenery from plants. I often get compliments on how the cottage is styled and 80% of our furniture and decoration is second hand. You too can incorporate these ideas into your wedding day, I know i certainly will be!

the venue

Of course if you have chosen a barn for your wedding day you already have the center piece to your wedding style design. Your venues rustic charm and character will bring out such a nice feature to the rest of your decoration. The perfect backdrop for a wooden barrel bar, bulb lights or fairy lights, wildflowers and cozy seating spots with hay bails and bunting.

There are tons of beautiful barns set across Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex. My personal favourites for their rustic charm include High Billinghurst Farm in Surrey, Clock Barn in Hampshire or Grittenham Barn in West Sussex (so many in West Sussex to choose from but this one has breathtaking views!)

Personalisation

The laid back rustic theme gives couples great opportunity to add their personal touches to their wedding decorations. Adding photos in wooden frames, hand written signs, chalkboards or a statement hand made arch as a ceremony back drop all work perfectly well with this theme.

Not only does this give you the opportunity to get creative, it can save tons on your budget. I often design my own name cards and menu’s in Canva followed by printing, cutting and sticking to card. However, if you don’t want to go too DIY you can also order from Etsy to support tons of small businesses who have some wonderful designs available to be delivered to your door.

Simple props

Upcycled items such as pallets are a great addition to your barn style wedding. These are often used for things like seating plans or order of the day displays.

Small details like crates or log stumps have such a effective way of decorating really well in this style again bringing the outdoors in.
